Project background...

The Celebrating the Burcham Street Over 50's Centre consultation has evolved through Jayne Clavering, Poplar HARCA, raising funds via IDCF, East India Pilot Small Grants programme to support a one-off launch event to celebrate the re-furbishment of Burcham Street Centre, Brownfield Estate in Poplar.

2 consultation sessions will be run by Anna Sexton from Open To Arts working with local residents looking at the history of the centre.

The end product will be a display of the work created which will open to the public on 30th January 2010 as part of 'Goldfingern 007' Launch event.

The show of work will then be open for a further 2 weeks for more local residents to share as well as further ways of sharing memories of the area.

The consultation aims to give local residents especially those who have been running and using the centre for over 50 years a chance to share their stories, talk about what works at the centre and what will work for the future.

The Centre is currently expanding the range of services on offer working to reach out a wider range of local people. Young people from the Aberfeldy Centre who are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh awards are working with the over 50's user groups at Burcham Street to create a garden space complete with outdoor furniture.

Funding has been allocated via The Poplar HARCA/Bow Arts Trust Arts Chest funds to work with both groups to discover a shared vision for the garden and ways to make the shared ideas a reality....this project is due to happen Feb/March 2010.
